SOAS Ceilidh Band cordially invites you to join our solidarity trip to Calais, France, to express our musical solidarity with the migrants who are gathered in that town, and who are subject to all kinds of racist harassment and discrimination.

Our trip to Calais will take place on Wednesday 12 to Thursday 13 February 2014.

It will include a formal concert, plus a Session in a local bar, plus a mini-conference on the subject of musics, borders and migrations.

With P&O ferries, the return fare for a car plus 4 persons is only £17 (!!!). The foot passenger fare Dover-Calais is £8 return.

Ceilidh Session in Calais – Wednesday 12 February 2014

You are invited to attend an Irish Music Session at the “Absolument Fabuleux” bar in Calais on the evening of Wednesday 12 February 2014.

Starting time, around 22.00. Admission free.

Music and songs performed by the SOAS Ceilidh Band from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London.

Last ceilidh of the year

You are invited to join the SOAS Ceilidh Band for the last ceilidh dance of this term.

We shall be featuring Egyptian dance music as part of our programme. Played by our guests Mohammed Antar (who plays the ney) from Cairo and Najib Coutya (who plays the ‘ud) from Lebanon.

Venue: Room L67 – SOAS

Admission: £5 / £3 for SOAS staff and students

We recommend booking in advance – it’s party night at SOAS, and we are expecting to sell out.
